Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi to resume shooting in July?

With the government lifting restrictions amid nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak, the film and TV productions will soon resume shooting that have been halted since mid-March 2020. As the filmmakers await permission to resume shooting from government officials, Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi may be the first film to roll in Mumbai.

The set in the Filmcity remains unused which was erected in order to film crucial portions. About 30 percent of the shooting is pending for Gangubai Kathiawadi. Since that's the only set that will probably be used, the filming might resume in July in order to complete the shooting by August end. As of now, the open set has been covered up to protect it from monsoon.

Titled Gangubai Kathiawadi, Gangubai, remembered as The Madam of Kamathipura in the pages of history, was pushed into prostitution at an early age, and later became an extremely influential pimp with numerous ferocious gangsters as her clients. The film is currently set for release on 11th September 2020 but it may get pushed further given that the shooting is pending.

Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj, Alia Bhatt’s Sadak 2, here’s confirmed list of films directly releasing on Disney + Hotstar

The nationwide lockdown, that commenced in March earlier this year, put a halt on every film’s release in the country. Big banner films like Sooryavanshi, 83, Coolie No. 1, Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai among others have been postponed indefinitely. With that being said, the showbiz has been brought to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Since there’s no certainty as to when the situation will be stable enough for theatres to get back on track, many producers are opting for digital releases in order to no suffer any more losses. It was already rumoured that after several movies like Gulabo Sitabo and Shakuntala Devi took the OTT route.

It is already confirmed that late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s last film Dil Bechara will premiere on Disney + Hotstar on July 24.  Now, it has been confirmed that seven films will be directly heading to the digital platform including two of the highly awaited movies – Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb and Ajay Devgn starrer Bhuj: The Pride Of India.

Here are all the movies releasing on the OTT:

LAXMMI BOMB:

This was supposed to Eid 2020 release and was to face off Salman Khan’s Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai. The film stars Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in the leading roles. The upcoming horror-thriller is written and directed by Raghava Lawrence as this film marks his Hindi directorial debut. Akshay plays the role of a transgender. It is a remake of the Tamil movie Muni 2: Kanchana.

BHUJ: THE PRIDE OF INDIA:

Ajay Devgn stars as IAF Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik. The story is set during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, where Karbnik was then in-charge of the Bhuj airport who and his team reconstructed the IAF airbase with the help of 300 local women. Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar, Ammy Virk, and Pranitha Subhash are starring in key roles. It is being co-produced, written, and directed by Abhishek Dudhaiya.

DIL BECHARA:

The much-delayed film starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi finally will get release. It was earlier named Kizie and Manny. The film is the remake of Hollywood romance drama The Fault In Our Stars, that starred Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley. The film marks the directorial debut of casting director, Mukesh Chhabra. It will be the late actor’s last film who passed away on June 14.

THE BIG BULL:

The much-awaited Abhishek Bachchan starrer, which was set for theatrical release on 23rd October 2020, is also heading to OTT. It is the story of a man who sold dreams to India. The film will also star Ileana D'Cruz, Nikita Dutta, and Soham Shah.  It is produced by Ajay Devgn and Anand Pandit, directed by Kookie Gulati and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Vikrant Sharma.

SADAK 2:

The film marks the return of Mahesh Bhatt as a director after his 1991 film, Sadak. The sequel will bring back the original actors Pooja Bhatt and Sanjay Dutt along with a new pair Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur. This is also the first time Alia is working with her father since her launch in Student Of The Year.

KHUDA HAAFIZ:

Khuda Haafiz is directed by Faruk Kabir and backed by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak. The film features Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi in lead roles.

LOOTCASE:

The film will see Kunal Kemmu in the lead along with Gajraj Rao, Rasika Duggal, Ranvir Shorey, and Vijay Raaz. The movie is directed by Rajesh Krishnan and produced by Fox Star Studios and Soda Films Productions.

Celebrating such undying spirit, actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently became a part of Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes to celebrate courageous women frontliners. The signature event honors women doing extraordinary work to serve their communities amid the pandemic and to search for solutions for modern history’s most challenging health calamity. Produced by Variety and Lifetime, the special also included Hollywood notables like Natalie Portman, Laverne Cox, and Nicole Kidman among others who paid a tribute to females working as frontline heroes during the pandemic including the doctors, nurses, teachers, and researchers.

Currently, when the world is battling with the novel coronavirus pandemic, the global icon is fiercely doing everything possible to help those in need. Right from PM CARES Fund, Give India, No Kid Hungry to Goonj, Feeding America and others, she has donated to various organizations to help combat COVID-19. In addition to this, Priyanka even pledged $100,000 in total to four incredible women who rose above the challenges to make a difference during the coronavirus crises.

Ecstatic to be honoured at Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes, PC took to her Instagram and wrote, "Incredibly honored to be a part of tonight’s 'Variety’s Power of Women: Frontline Heroes' special, celebrating the courageous women on the frontlines of this pandemic. Special congrats to this year’s amazing Power of Women Honorees - Cate Blanchett, Patti LuPone, and Janelle MonĂ¡e."

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has earlier been honoured by Variety’s Power of Women in 2018 for her incredible work with UNICEF. For the unversed, Variety highlights prominent women who are using their clout and influence to bring attention to worthy causes.

Priyanka has joined forces with the World Health Organisation to educate fans about the necessary precautions and guidelines which need to be followed in this self-isolation period.

Taapsee Pannu shocked to receive electric bill of Rs. 36,000 for her vacant house

Actor Taapsee Pannu has been left in shock after she received exorbitant electricity billy earlier this month. The actress took to Twitter to reveal that she was charged Rs 36,000 for the month of June in her vacant house.

Taapsee Pannu wrote. “3 months of lockdown and I wonder what appliance(s) I have newly used or bought in the apartment only last month to have such an insane rise in my electricity bill. @Adani_Elec_Mum what kind of POWER r u charging us for,” she wrote in a tweet and shared pictures of her electric bills for June (Rs 36,000), May (Rs 3850) and April (Rs 4390).

“And this one is for an apartment where no one stays n it’s only visited once in a week for cleaning purpose, @Adani_Elec_Mum I am now worried if someone is actually using the apartment without our knowledge and you have helped us uncover the reality,” she wrote.

On the work front, Taapsee Pannu will next star in Rashmi Rocket, Shabaash Mithu and Haseen Dilruba.

Shah Rukh Khan celebrates 28 years in Bollywood – “Thank u all for so many years of allowing me to entertain you”

In 1982, Shah Rukh Khan made his way to the films after starring in multiple TV shows like Fauji, Circus, Wagle Ki Duniya. While he was already popular on Television, he had a long way to go. But, he instantly made impressive beginning with Deewana starring alongside Rishi Kapoor and Divya Bharti. On June 25, the superstar completed 28 years in the film industry.

On Sunday, June 28, Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 28 years in Bollywood by sharing a monochrome picture on social media. He captioned it saying, "Don’t know when my passion became my purpose and then turned into my profession. Thank u all for so many years of allowing me to entertain you. More than my professionalism I believe my passionalism will see me through many more years of service to all of you."

In the next tweet, he thanked Gauri Khan for clicking the photo. He wrote, "28 years and counting... and thank u @gaurikhan for capturing this moment."

While Shah Rukh Khan has been on hiatus since the release of Zero in 2018, the actor has been busy producing movies and web shows. He has produced Badla starring Taapsee Pannu and Amitabh Bachchan and two Netflix shows – Bard Of Blood and Betaal.

SCOOP: Varun Dhawan's Coolie No 1 to release in theatres; WON’T take the OTT route?

It's been more than a month that speculations have been going arund that some of the most awaited films of the year would be straight away released on one of the biggest streaming platforms, Disney+ Hotstar. And finally, tomorrow, that is, June 29 is the day when the announcement in this regard will be made. This was confirmed by Disney+ Hotstar itself when they put up an image mentioning that they'll make the coveted announcement tomorrow evening at 4:30 PM IST in a star studded online event. A picture of the stars who'll attend the event was also published and these were Alia Bhatt, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Varun Dhawan.

As soon as this announcement was uploaded, many eyebrows were raised especially about the presence of Varun in the said image. It led to speculations that his next film, Coolie No 1, is also arriving on OTT directly. His fans were disheartened as Coolie No 1 is a masala comic caper and have chances of working in theatres. The last few films of his haven’t worked. Hence they were banking on Coolie No 1's theatrical release as it would have got Varun back in the big league. Sadly, the OTT speculations of its release disheartened them.

However, it turns out that Coolie No 1 is not skipping theatrical release. A source says, "As per the information that we have got, Coolie No 1 is not releasing on Disney+ Hotstar. Varun's picture has been published alongside the others as he's going to host the event."

The source further adds, "Coolie No 1 is directed by Varun's father David Dhawan who strongly believes in theatrical release. He would not let Coolie No 1 arrive on a streaming platform." He also however cautions, "If, at the last moment, Coolie No 1 makers have made a deal for online release, then we don't know. But that's unlikely."

Shedding more light on this event, the source reveals, "The event will also be attended by Uday Shankar, President, The Walt Disney Company (Asia Pacific) and Chairman, Star & Disney India. An announcement would be made of films that will arrive on Disney+ Hotstar, starting July 24 when Sushant Singh Rajput's last film Dil Bechara. Every Friday will then see a new film arriving on the platform. Some of the films that will be announced are Akshay Kumar's horror comedy Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn's patriotic actioner Bhuj – The Pride Of India, Alia Bhatt-starrer Sadak 2, and Abhishek Bachchan's stock market saga The Big Bull. Besides, Kunal Kemmu's comedy Lootcase and Vidyut Jammwal's romantic actioner Khuda Hafiz are also expected to be announced."

Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba to re-release in Fiji and Australia

Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer Simmba had the perfect balance of humour and drama. It spoke about some of the gravest social issues and had the audiences hooting and lauding the actor during the action sequences. Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty collaborated for the first time and it couldn’t have been better. Rohit Shetty’s cop universe just got better after Ranveer Singh made an entry as Simmba.

With the Coronavirus outbreak, movie theatres across the globe were shut and had after three months, things are finally returning to normal in India as well as countries abroad. Simmba is all set to rerelease in Fiji and Australia and Ranveer Singh is over the moon with the news. He took to his social media to share the official posters of the film for the respective countries. Fiji has already released the film while it releases in Australia on July 2.
