BREAKING: Kartik Aaryan-starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 to be remade in Tamil by Singam producer Gnanavel Raja

Often, Bollywood filmmakers are seen being impressed by Southern films and then remaking them for the Hindi-speaking markets. Several films which released in recent times like Vikram Vedha, Mili, Drishyam 2, Shehzada, Selfiee, Bholaa, Gumraah, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, U-Turn, Chatrapathi, Mumbaikar etc, were remakes of popular South films. And now, in a trend reversal, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022), one of the biggest blockbusters of Bollywood, is all set to be remade down South.

As per a report in Deccan Chronicle, reputed producer Gnanavel Raja has bagged the rights to the film and will remake the Kartik Aaryan-Kiara Advani starrer in Tamil. The report claimed that apart from Gnanavel Raja, a few more producers were also in the race to acquire the rights.

Gnanavel Raja confirmed that he has won the rights and was quoted saying, “Yes, I have purchased the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 south remake rights. I believe it's a nice story to be told here with a different spin. I am currently in the process of finalizing the cast and crew. I haven't zeroed in on anyone yet.”

An industry insider commented on this development, “This is significant. Usually, we hear of Bollywood producers purchasing rights to South films. How many times did you hear that a Bollywood film will be remade in a different language?”

He continued, “The first part, Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007), was a remake of the Malayalam film Manichitrathazhu (1993). And now it’s a vice versa scenario as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is an original film which will have a remake.”

Besides Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 also starred Tabu, Rajpal Yadav and Sanjay Mishra. It is about a boy and girl who meet in the hills and then destiny takes them to an abandoned mansion where a dreaded spirit that has been trapped for 18 years. Directed by Anees Bazmee, it was released on May 20, 2022, and drew audiences in hordes, thanks to its mass appeal, hit music, a nice combo of comedy and horror and unpredictable twists. At the box office, it collected a huge Rs. 185.92 crores.

Speaking of Gnanavel Raja, he is the founder of Studio Green. The production house was established in 2006 and he has bankrolled several memorable films like Paruthiveeran (2007), Singam (2010; which was remade in Hindi as Singham in 2011), Naan Mahaan Alla (2010), Siruthai (2011), Madras (2014), Darling (2015), Thaanaa Serndha Koottam (2018) etc. His upcoming films are Kanguva, starring Suriya and Thangalaan, starring Vikram.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu confirms she will play Priyanka Chopra’s mother in Citadel India

Samantha Ruth Prabhu will be starring alongside Varun Dhawan in the Indian installment of the Citadel universe, the global-event series from Prime Video and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO. The untitled Citadel series based out of India is being helmed by renowned creator duo Raj & DK (Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK), who are the showrunners and directors. The local installment is written by Sita R. Menon, along with Raj & DK. Following the shoot in Mumbai and North India, the unit will also head to international locales like Serbia and South Africa. The untitled Indian Original Citadel series will most likely be a prequel to Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden starrer which wrapped the first season in May 2023.

Recently, it was confirmed that Samantha Ruth Prabhu will essay the role of Priyanka Chopra’s mother in Citadel India. Speaking to E-Times, an insider said, “The international and Indian versions of Citadel are set in two different eras. Priyanka’s character is a child in Samantha’s Citadel. It’s like saying Tabu played Irrfan Khan’s mother in Life Of Pi. They didn’t even meet during the shooting.” The publication added that they called Samantha and she confirmed that she is playing Priyanka’s mother in the Citadel universe.

For the unversed, Varun Dhawan made his international debut with a cameo in Priyanka and Richard’s Citadel. In the fifth episode, Priyanka Chopra’s Nadia Sinh has a secret child with Mason Kane, played by Richard Madden and she has kept the news under wraps. During the flashback from 8 years ago, she makes a call to the terrorist Rahi Gambhir in an attempt to relocate to Spain after she finds out about her pregnancy. When she is confronted by Mason and Osy Ikhile (Carter Spence) about contacting Gambhir, she reveals that the man is, in fact, her father. Played by Paul Bazely, he helps her escape Citadel in order to move to Spain. Interestingly, the call that happens on the episode is dubbed by none other than Varun Dhawan. His cameo gets confirmed when the end credits roll and thank Varun.

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK will also serve as executive producers on the show, under their banner D2R Films. The series is produced by D2R Films and Amazon Studios, with AGBO’s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Scott Nemes, and David Weil (Hunters) overseeing production on the Indian Original and all series within the global Citadel universe. Josh Applebaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg serve as executive producers for Midnight Radio, on the untitled Indian Original and all series within the global Citadel universe. Vatsal Sheth on agreeing to star in the TV show Titli: "This show sheds light on an issue that is very close to my heart"

Vatsal Sheth is back on the television screen with StarPlus show Titli. He will be seen essaying the role of Rahul who is Titli’s school senior settled in Dubai. It is love at first sight with Titli for Rahul and he woos her. The character of Rahul is someone charming, witty, and extremely family oriented. Yet there is a dark secret that Rahul has kept under wraps.

Neha Solanki will be seen essaying the titular role of Titli. The show is a love story of a joyful and vibrant girl named Titli who is on a quest to find her ideal man and live a fairytale life with him. But will it be a happily ever after? Avinash Mishra plays the character of Garv opposite Neha Solanki, Titli. StarPlus recently dropped the promo of the show Titli. The audience will witness a shift in the characteristics of Titli and Garv. It can be seen that Garv and Titli are in a happy place, but life after marriage will turn things around for Titli unknowingly. It will be intriguing to watch how the drama unfolds in the life of Titli and whether will it be a happily ever after.

NEW SHOW ALERT! Kushal Tandon and Shivangi Joshi come together for a new romantic show called Barsatein

It seems that several channels have been of late going on a revamp mode with many new shows being launched. Sony Entertainment has launched a new show with a romantic twist and that too with a never-seen-before pair. The recent promo of this series, titled Barsatein (Rains), features Shivangi Joshi of Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame as well as Kushal Tandon of Beyhadh fame.

Readers would recall that Shivangi Joshi ruled audiences in hearts as Naira in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai whereas Kushal Tandon created waves in number of his shows including Beyhadh and Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai. However, while neither of the actors have shared screen space in the past, fans have expressed their excitement about seeing a new pair onscreen.

The promo of Barsatein released earlier today, where we can see Kushal Tandon in a well-suited look walking down the streets amid pouring rain whereas Shivangi Joshi, dressed in simple Indian attire, like an independent working woman, trying to catch hold of a cab as she tries to balance her umbrella. However, Kushal gets into the cab that Shivangi stopped without a mere apology and takes off, leaving Joshi fuming over his rude behavior.

The promo received a lot of love from audiences who are keen on seeing this pair onscreen. “Wow..kushal and shivangi..nice pair” said one of the fans. As many of them can’t wait to see them come together they expressed, “So excited… my favourite two in one frame”. Yet another fan added, “Excited for this onscreen jodi with their beautiful nok jok and amazing chemistry full of twist.” “Can't wait” and “Shivangi and kushals chemistry <3” were a few other comments that dominated the comments section.

The show is produced by Ekta Kapoor and marks the comeback of Kushal Tandon on the small screen after six years. Whereas Shivangi Joshi was recently seen in a special appearance in the recently launched show Bekaboo as Rajpari Devlekha.

Movie Review: Mumbaikar MUMBAIKAR is a poor show

MUMBAIKAR is the story of a group of madcap characters in a crazy city. A young chap (Vikrant Massey) aspires to be a cop like his maternal uncle, Sangram Shinde (Sachin Khedekar). He’s in love with Ishita (Tanya Maniktala) and when he learns that a goon is going to harm her, he teaches him a nice lesson, without worrying about the consequences. In the process, another young chap (Hridhu Haroon), who’s just landed in Mumbai, gets into trouble. Another simpleton who has just arrived in Mumbai is Manu (Vijay Sethupathi). He aspires to be a gangster and joins a gang. He’s asked to kidnap a child named Rahul Jhunjhunwala. He enters his school but mistakenly kidnaps Rahul Patil, the son of the dreaded gangster Prabalkant Patil aka PKP (Ranvir Shorey). What happens next forms the rest of the film.

MUMBAIKAR is the official remake of the 2017 Tamil film, MAANAGARAM. Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah's story has all the trappings of an ideal comic caper. Himanshu Singh's screenplay is weak. The film should have been funnier. However, the laughs are few and far between. Himanshu Singh's dialogues work only in some scenes.

Santosh Sivan's direction is not upto the mark. There’s not much of back stories given and hence, the characters and their conflicts seem superficial. Also, similar films with this kind of setup like LOOTCASE [2020], SHOR IN THE CITY [2011], DELHI BELLY [2011] etc have set a benchmark in terms of writing and execution. MUMBAIKAR pales behind, in comparison. Merely showing characters bumping into each other for dramatic effect doesn’t work. In fact, without a strong script, this bit looks very unconvincing.

On the positive side, a few scenes stand out. The scene where Manu kidnaps Rahul is quite funny as also the reaction of the gang members when they realize that they have kidnapped the son of a dreaded gangster. Secondly, the 123-minute-long film doesn’t bore at all.

Speaking of performances, Vikrant Massey is quite good, as expected. Vijay Sethupathi is the best part of the film. It's thanks to him that the film is likeable. Ranvir Shorey is fine at best. Tanya Maniktala is lovely and has a superb screen presence. Hridhu Haroon does well in his debut. Sachin Khedekar, Sanjay Mishra (cab driver) and Brijendra Kala (constable) are dependable. The actors playing the gang members, Rahul Jhunjhunwala and the acid attacker were okay.

All songs of the film like 'Mahi Mere', 'Chhuppan Chhuppai' and 'Hone De' are forgettable and needlessly forced. Salil Amrute's background score is nothing special either. Santosh Sivan's cinematography is first-rate. Sham Kaushal's action is unexciting. Jyoti Madnani Singh's costumes are realistic. Dilip Damodar's editing is sharp.

On the whole, MUMBAIKAR is a poor show due to its weak writing and execution.

Tamannaah Bhatia starrer Jee Karda to premiere on Prime Video on June 15

Prime Video today announced the global premiere of romance drama, Amazon Original series Jee Karda, starting 15 June. The series revolves around seven childhood friends who discover that life at 30 is definitely not what they had imagined while growing up. Featuring Tamannaah Bhatia, Aashim Gulati, Suhail Nayyar, Anya Singh, Hussain Dalal, Sayan Banerjee, and Samvedna Suwalka as buddies, the heartwarming-yet-edgy series also features Simone Singh and Malhar Thakar in pivotal roles. Written and directed by Arunima Sharma, co-written by Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal, and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the eight-episode series will exclusively premiere on June 15.

Jee Karda is an immersive story of seven childhood friends, who thought that by the time they were 30 that their lives will be sorted. However, upon turning 30, they eventually find out that it’s a grand hot mess instead. They live, love, laugh, make mistakes together, get their hearts broken, and grow up a little, but through it all, discover that the best of friendships and relationships are imperfect and life is a luminous shade of gray.
