“Bollywood Failed Parveen Babi,” says Urvashi Rautela as she gears up for her biopic

Model-turned-actor Urvashi Rautela has made headlines with the announcement of her upcoming role in a biopic based on the life of the late actress Parveen Babi. For the unversed, Parveen Babi was known for her remarkable acting skills and captivating on-screen presence. However, her life was often marred by controversy and personal struggles, making her a subject of intense media scrutiny. Taking to social media on Sunday, Rautela shared a brief glimpse into Babi's life and expressed her belief that Bollywood had “failed” the talented actress.

The video post featured a note in Hindi, shedding light on Parveen Babi's eventful professional and personal life. It indicated that the biopic would explore both aspects of her journey. The note also revealed the director to be Wasim S Khan and the writer as Dhiraj Mishra, as it proudly bore the Screenwriter Associations' submission logo.

Meanwhile, the captions of Rautela’s post read, “Bollywood Failed #ParveenBabi but I will make you proud #PB ~ UR Om Namah Shivay. Trust the magic of new beginnings.” As the news of Urvashi Rautela starring in the Parveen Babi biopic was announced, fans started expressing their excitement about the project.

“You're gonna kill it for sure, so many layers to her personality,” commented a fan page, while a user wrote, “this will change your career just give best and and you looks like her too.” 

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that Rautela had earlier claimed that she was at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival for the photocall launch of the Parveen Babi biopic. However, she did not speak about the film during her time at the event.

Veteran actress Sulochana Latkar passes away at 94

Veteran actress Sulochana Latkar, known more as Sulochana didi, passed away today in Mumbai. She was suffering from respiratory illness since last few months. Her condition had deteriorated recently after which she was admitted in Sushrusha Hospital in Dadar where she took her last breath.

Sulochana Latkar was admitted for a similar condition in March this year as well. At that time, the cost of her treatment was taken care of by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Eknath Shinde from the Chief Minister’s fund.

The veteran actress did over 250 films in Hindi and Marathi. She started acting when she was in her teens in the mid-1940s and was active till the mid-1990s. Some of her notable Hindi films include Sujata (1959), Naya Kadam (1958), Duniya Na Mane (1959), Bharat Milap (1965), Main Sundar Hoon (1971), Dharmatma (1975), Faraar (1975), Asha (1980), Yaarana (1981), etc. In the latter stage of her career, she was known for playing Amitabh Bachchan’s mother in a number of films.

She was considered a legend in Marathi cinema. Some of her famous characters in the language appeared in films like Vahinichya Bangdya (1953), Maza Ghar Majhi Manasa (1956), Molkarin (1963), Maratha Tituka Melvava (1964), etc.

In an old interview with Cinestaan, Sulochana Latkar was asked to name her most satisfying films. She had said, “There are three such important films. One is Vahinichya Bangdya, due to which I got recognized even outside Maharashtra; Maratha Tituka Melvava, where I played Jijabai; and there is Maza Ghar Majhi Manasa. In Hindi, I would say Sujata, Asha, Main Sundar Hoon, among others.”

Sulochana Latkar’s funeral will take place tomorrow.

EXCLUSIVE: Scam 1992 actor Pratik Gandhi spotted in a blink-and-miss cameo in Hansal Mehta’s web series Scoop

Netflix’s latest drama series directed by Hansal Mehta and co-created by Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, Scoop, has created chatter amongst the audiences. Netizens have been showering love on the show but some of them have been on point with their observation game. A few netizens have spotted the mastermind director Hansal Mehta in a short cameo in the show. But the shocker is the Scam 1992 (2020) star Pratik Gandhi who made a blink-and-miss cameo in the last episode. Director Hansal Mehta has cleverly used the actor in the breakout watch of the month.

Shedding light on his unusual casting choice, Hansal Mehta said, “We were shooting in Kandivali at a location that is Jagruti’s mama’s (Deven Bhojani) shop. I called Pratik who lives in the lane behind to drop by. He came cycling to the location. We chatted. Out of the blue, I asked him if he’d do a small passing shot. He agreed without blinking an eyelid. Up to the audience to find him!”

Pratik Gandhi and Hansal Mehta had earlier collaborated on Scam 1992. Based on the life of the controversial Harshad Mehta, the web show was a huge success. Pratik became a household name thanks to Scam 1992.

Scoop is inspired by the book ‘Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison’ by Jigna Vora. It stars Karishma Tanna in the lead along with Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Sanat Vyas, Deven Bhojani, Vishal Thakkar, Prosenjit Chatterjee and others. It is the story of a Mumbai-based journalist whose life turns upside down after she is arrested on false charges of murdering a rival journalist.

Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani unveil romantic poster of Satyaprem Ki Katha; trailer out tomorrow

After a long wait, the trailer of Sajid Nadiadwala and Namah Pictures's Satyaprem Ki Katha is all set for its release tomorrow. After giving a glimpse of this upcoming romantic musical love saga with the teaser and 'Naseeb Se' song, the makers dropped a beautiful poster, just a day before the release of the trailer.

Bringing the pair Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani back on the screen after Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, the film promises soulful music and mesmerizing larger-than-life visuals. Featuring Kartik Aaryan and Kiara Advani, the poster shows the chemistry of this magical couple.

Satyaprem Ki Katha also marks a collaboration between NGE and Namah Pictures. Odisha train accident: Sonu Sood requests government to set up relief fund; says, “Social media pe dukh dikhane se kuch nahi hoga”

A tragic three-train collision in Odisha on Friday evening has claimed the lives of at least 288 people and left nearly 900 injured. In the wake of this devastating incident, several celebrities, including Salman Khan, Jr NTR, Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Vivek Agnihotri, and Parineeti Chopra, among others, have expressed their condolences on social media. Notably, actor Sonu Sood has dedicated a heartfelt post accompanied by a poignant message to honour the victims of the tragedy.

He has conveyed his apprehension regarding the future well-being of individuals who have lost family members or sustained permanent injuries. He stated that while those expressing condolences on social media may soon move on, he is deeply concerned about the fate of the victims once they exhaust their compensation within a few months.

He said, “hum log tweet karte hain, shok dikhate hain fir apni zindagi mein busy ho jate hain (we tweet and express grief and then get busy with our lives). But what about all those people who had left home to earn livelihood in another city, many families have vanished, will they ever be able to stand up again.”

Sonu has further urged political parties to refrain from engaging in a blame game and appealed to the government to establish a relief fund specifically for the affected individuals. He said, “I ask everyone to do something for them, the state governments, the central government should form certain kinds of policies which set an example for the future,” in the video.
